Troutlodge is part of the multinational, multi species animal breeding company Hendrix Genetics. As part of this organisation we have access to market leading genetic and genomic technology to utilize in our Rainbow Trout breeding program.
From our base in the pacific NW we supply around 500M selectively bred trout eggs to over 50 countries annually.

With such international trade health testing and certification is an essential part of our business. We are recruiting for this position which will lead the implementation of our fish disease testing program, ensuring that samples are taken in the approved manner, and dispatched to the diagnostic laboratory in the accepted timescale as well as distributing lot results internally. The role will also lead the on farm health monitoring program (microbiological and parasite), and and operate the on site lab to a high standard.

Responsibilities

Ensure that sampling across all farms is undertaken to schedule, and in coordination with contracted veterinarian.

Co-ordinate fish health (bacterial and parasite) monitoring on all farms

Operate lab within budgeted costs

Maintain and order lab supplies and reagents as required

Build positive relationships with other trout producers in the area, as well as contracted laboratory and veterinarian.

Contribute to R&D activities as required.

Ensure that environmental and legislative requirements are being met.

Aid in the development of testing regimes to meet specific foreign import requirements

Qualifications and Skills

A degree in fish biology / natural resources or similar.
Lab and diagnostic experience a distinct advantage.
Trout rearing experience on commercial scale
Strong teamworker with excellent inter personal skills
IT skills with MS products.
