Production Manager

Planet Shrimp Inc. is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Production Manager. Located in Aylmer, Ontario, our facility is an indoor, super-intensive, fully recirculating aquafarm that has the capability to produce 150-200 tonnes of pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) annually.


Management and oversight of farming activities, including:
• Animal husbandry practices and animal health
• Production planning
• Post larvae purchase, shipping, reception
• Stocking
• Population transfers
• Harvests
• Nutrition and feed system maintenance
• Rearing unit maintenance
• Record keeping and data management; the development and use of proprietary, state of the art farm management software
• Maintenance of inventory of farm, laboratory, and facility consumables
• Appropriate response to various monitoring system alarm signals
• Identification of opportunities for increased production/facility efficiency
• Observation and reporting on production output vs. objectives
• Submission of required reports with accuracy and in a timely fashion

Human resource management:
• Organization of workflow; delegation of related tasks to team coordinators and technicians and ensuring acceptable standard of completion
• Participation in employee evaluations
• Setting daily / weekly team objectives
• Oversight, training and coaching of employees
• Training of new employees on safety, equipment maintenance standards and SFMS system data entry
• Enforcement of safety guidelines and company standards and policies
• Liaise with other Managers to promote a collaborative team environment

• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in aquaculture production
• Undergraduate degree in aquatic biology, aquaculture/fisheries science, or related field
• Willingness to relocate to Aylmer or surrounding area.
• Fluency in English, oral and written
• Familiarity with recirculating aquaculture systems
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and people management skills
• Critical thinking skills
• Self-motivated
• Ability to work odd hours beyond a 40-hour work week as required
• Proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft office
• Basic mechanical inclination and aptitude for hands on work with live animals and their byproducts
• Knowledge of shrimp biology would be an asset
• Valid Ontario Driver’s license or ability to obtain

• The production manager will be compensated on a competitive salary basis commensurate with experience and qualifications
